You long for sweaters and boots, but its 96 degrees outside. Ahhh, September in the South. Here are a few ideas for looking fall and feeling cool.
1. Saddle tan with everything.
It's a seasonless neutral but seems especially right this time of year. As a belt, a buttery soft leather handbag, or even summer sandals, this classic color is a champ for warming up your look.
Try: The Boardwalk Ankel Sandal from Madewell, $59.50 at Nordstrom
2. Trade white for ivory.
More and more, white is welcome after Labor Day (Visit Cassie at HiSugarplum.com for tips- she has mastered doing white well all year long.) But the warmer undertones of off-white make it easy to segue into the season.
Pairing a favorite summer tee with ivory jeans instead of white, or belting a crisp chambray over an off-white skirt instead of a white sundress brings the fresh feel of fall to your fashion standbys.
Try: Flattering wrap dress by Who What Wear will be a seasonal chameleon depending on accessories, and comes in regular and women's sizes. From $36.99 at Target.
3. But don't rule out white, altogether...
Kate from @lonestarsouthern inspired this look. Grab a pair of her playful Just Float On jeans at Free People.
Summer's cool white top is still perfect remixed with a new pair of jeans. Sandals and a breezy top keep jeans from feeling too heavy. A little saddle tan, of course, makes the perfect accent.
Try: The Presley Shirt from Tuckernuck is popover perfection, and on sale right now!
4. Add a shot of half-and-half
Try: Academy's Shorty-Shorts are adorable and come in so many pretty fabrics. A classic Landsend Drifter will supply preppy style for years to come. Tie on a Ginny Moon scarf in your favorite pattern.
Breton stripes look new with jewel-tone shorts. Your favorite summer bottoms get a fall upgrade from a lightweight drifter and rich scarf. Half summer, half fall works great this time of year.
5. Let mules do the heavy lifting
Try: $36 Steve Madden loafers make a nice dupe for the oh-so-pricey Gucci Bloom Patch or Princetowns shown above.
